Photos of Hurricane FRAN damage (Raleigh, NC - 1996)
On September 6, 1996, a 100 year old oak tree in my back yard fell during
the visit of Hurricane Fran to Raleigh, NC. It left an approximately 10 foot
root bowl, and was prevented from slicing my home in half by the chimney which
was shattered down to half its original height. These are some damage photos.
The log remaining after trimming all branches and lifting it down from the chimney (by a highway sign crane) - still 7 tons.
